World War II Victory Bond Promotional Film “Silence
Made to promote the 6th War Loan in 1945, SILENCE shows the aftermath of war, with shattered harbors and factories, but no troops or machines of war present — just silence. “But a war cannot be won this way,” says the narrator, and then the film erupts into a loud, incredible montage of violence and mayhem. And, a new announcer continues at 2:00, we must have another noise — the noise of busy factories and assembly lines producing tanks, trucks, tires, guns, ammunition and more. The film ends with a deceased American soldier and the message, Let’s Buy More War Bonds!
