World War II U.S. Treasury Department ” On The War Bond Front”
Made during WWII, “On the War Bond Front” was produced by the United States Treasury Department to promote the sale of War Bonds. The film charts some of the United States Saving Bond and Stamp programs, and shows how they were promoted within industry and civilian populations. At the 49 second mark, the film shows Secretary of the Treasury Henry Morgenthau, Jr. selling a defense bond to President Roosevelt. It was an incredibly successful effort. As the film explains in July of 1942, just six months after war was declared, war bond sales reached 900 million dollars, and war stamps reached 54 million dollars.
