Russian hypersonic air-launched ballistic missile system.
The 9-A-7660 (or Kh-47M2, NATO reporting name Killjoy) better known under the name “Kinzhal”, is a Russian hypersonic air-launched ballistic missile system.
The system includes the modified supersonic MiG-31K carrier aircraft and the 9-C-7760 missile, created on the basis of the Iskander (NATO: Stone) mobile short-range ballistic missile system.
According to various sources, the missile after launch is capable of accelerating to speeds of more than M10 (10 speeds of sound). This allows it to be classified as hypersonic, automatically making the Kinzhal the world’s first mass-produced hypersonic weapon.
In this video, we will study the origins of this system, get acquainted with its features and try to figure out whether it is really hypersonic.
