Ukraine warned of “another ecological disaster” when the invading Russian forces captured the Chernobyl nuclear site. Chernobyl Exclusion Zone includes four closed reactors one of which melted down in 1986 and spread radioactive waste across Europe. Ukraine’s state nuclear regulator blamed Russian military activity for the recent spike in radioactive levels at the “exclusion zone”.
