Ukraine Invasion
Russia has vetoed a UN Security Council resolution telling Moscow to stop attacking Ukraine and withdraw all troops immediately. The resolution had called for Moscow to immediately pull out its military and stop using force against Ukraine. The resolution was doomed to fail because of Russia’s veto power as a permanent member of the UNSC. The resolution’s failure paves the way for backers to call for a swift vote in the 193-member UN General Assembly. However, General Assembly resolutions aren’t legally binding, but they can function as statements of world opinion.
