Russia’s Defence Ministry said that Russian troops have captured the village of Blahodatne in the Donetsk region. However, the Wagner Group had on January 28 already claimed that its units had taken control of Blahodatne. The deputy commander of Ukraine’s Svoboda battalion has described the fighting near Bakhmut as “a real hell”. France has promised to send 12 additional Caesar self-propelled howitzers to Ukraine. Meawhile, After Germany and the US, UK PM Rishi Sunak has ruled out sending fighter jets to Ukraine on the grounds that it is “not practical”. The Kremlin has called Lithuania’s push to provide Ukraine with western fighter jets and long-range missiles “a very aggressive approach”.
