According to sources, the United States Air Force is currently invested in an incredibly ambitious endeavor: dropping plasma bombs filled with charged particles into the upper part of Earth’s atmosphere, as a way of enhancing the reception of radio signals. The project, officials state, would entail sending tiny orbiting satellites known as CubeSats to the ionosphere.
Measuring only a few centimeters, these miniature satellites will be equipped with specially-designed plasma generators. At present, the U.S. Air Force is working with three different teams of researchers. Of these, the best proposal will receive funding for a second phase of testing, including laboratory experiments as well as exploratory space flights.
