Estonia has said that NATO member states are close to creating a “NATO sea” that may deter Russia and help Ukraine. Estonian defence minister, Hanno Pevkur, said the alliance’s Nordic expansion would make the Baltic sea “an inner sea of NATO”. Sweden and Finland joining NATO means the Baltic Sea will be surrounded by NATO states and will isolate Russia in the region. Can NATO counter Putin’s Baltic sea ambitions?
