Vladimir Putin’s announcement about partial mobilisation has sent shockwaves across Russia. Civilians across the country are fleeing to avoid becoming the cannon fodder in Ukraine war. However, Putin’s call-up has alarmed Russia’s ethnic minorities, that are already facing summons for mobilisation. Experts say that the intensity of the drive in Buryatia has fueled suspicions that ethnic minorities are being disproportionately sent to Ukraine. Analysts say that Kremlin is trying avoiding recruiting conscripts from St Petersburg and Moscow in order to avoid protests.
