After months of “bloody battle”, Russia is now sending waves of fresh troops into the fight as it tries to break Ukraine’s grip on the eastern city. The Ukrainian military in the region claims Russia owes its recent gains to increased troop numbers in the region. Russian forces are reportedly assaulting the city from three directions, leaving Ukraine’s main supply line under severe pressure. Yevgeny Prigozhin, the founder and head of the Wagner group, said his soldiers were “fighting for every street, every house, every stairwell” against Ukrainian forces who were not retreating. Can Putin’s number game give battlefield momentum to Russia?
