Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered his defence chiefs to put the country’s nuclear “deterrence” forces on high alert. Putin’s move will add to tensions which are already soaring after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Moscow has the world’s largest arsenal of nuclear weapons and a huge cache of ballistic missiles. Experts say the order could mean that bombs are loaded on to bombers, or more nuclear-armed submarines put out to sea
