Niger Ignores Direct US Request
Russian military personnel entered an airbase in Niger that was hosting US troops, Reuters reported, citing a senior US defence official. The move followed a decision by Niger’s ruling junta to expel US forces from the West African nation.
Niger had said on March 26 the US would shortly submit a proposal to “disengage” its soldiers from the country. Niger’s move came after the military regime in Niamey said it was withdrawing from a 2012 cooperation deal with Washington.
