Harald Hardrada Documentary
xHarald Hardrada is often considered the last great Viking. As King of Norway, his rule was defined by ambition and military prowess, traits he bore throughout his early life. At age fifteen, he fought at the Battle of Stiklestad on the side of his half-brother Olaf II of Norway. Soon after, he joined the service of a Russian king and then set off for Constantinople. In Byzantium, Harald was appointed leader of the Varangian Guard but eventually left service to claim the Norwegian throne. He ruled Norway for nineteen years and invaded England in 1066 A.D.
During this invasion, Harald would fight in one of the most famous battles in medieval history. It was this battle that determined the fate of his life and the throne of England.
