Stalingrad Firestorm
As Paulus’s 6th Army crosses the Don river, Wolfram Freiherr von Richthofen’s Luftflotte 4 launches a devastating air attack on the city of Stalingrad itself. Soviet civilians were caught in a firestorm that was, perhaps, Stalin’s doing (we debate this today!).
