The United State’s 280mm Howitzer, Atomic Annie, was first tested at the Nevada test site on May 25, 1953. It fired a 365kg fission warhead 10,000 meters, and it detonated 160 meters above the ground.

The Soviet Union also had a stockpile of atomic warheads. Both countries have since decommissioned these tactical weapons systems. Artillery itself has a long and distinguished history going back to through time to the dawn of gunpowder. In fact, the first recorded use of canons in battle was way back in 1132, in China.
