Ukraine War
Thousands of civilians are reportedly trapped in the Ukrainian city of Severodonetsk with essential supplies running out. The last bridge leading out of the city was destroyed in fighting earlier this week, trapping all the remaining residents. Satellite images also show fields peppered with artillery craters north-west of the city of Sloviansk. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called for readiness checks in case of invasion from Belarus. Zelensky also spoke on Russia raising its gas prices, saying that the EU must now switch to life without Russian gas. UK’s chief of defence staff Sir Tony Radakin says that Russia has already “strategically lost” its war with Ukraine. Meanwhile, the Dutch intelligence service AIVD said it has stopped a Russian spy posing as an intern from accessing the International Criminal Court (ICC). French President Emmanuel Macron said that he will not go to Russia without “preconditions,” such as “gestures” from Putin.
