Kharkiv & Kherson were both once under Russian control since the special operation in Ukraine began in February 2022. However, since the focus of the war shifted east in the Donbas, Ukrainian forces have managed to push Russian forces out of the two important cities. This push back may become a huge worry for Putin’s plan which wanted unhindered access to the Crimean peninsula and thereby to the black sea.
