Why Did Japanese Intelligence Fail at Midway?

Japanese Intelligence failings

The US Navy won the Battle of Midway because it managed to surprise the Japanese Fleet. In this video we examine why Japanese intelligence failed at Midway and left them so dangerously in the dark.

This military history discussion will involve looking at the reasons why code breaking and scouting efforts failed. We look first at the cryptography war as both the US and Japan sought to encode and decode Cipher or Code protected messages. In these efforts, the US held the upper hand because of the Navajo Code Talkers. We then discuss the three ways Japan planned to pierce the fog of war as it approached Midway and why each proved fatally unsuccessful.
