The War Aims of the Great Powers in WWI
In 1914, the First World War drew Europe’s 5 Great Powers into battle. Unlike previous conflicts, the struggle quickly became a total one, demanding total victory. The result, was that no power seriously published a definitive list of war aims that might have made negotiation easier. This video then, looks at what some of those aims discussed by the government’s and high command’s of belligerent powers in the war, how they changed, and why they refused to compromise. It also takes a look at a part of the economic history of the war
