Battle of Cape Spada, 1940
In the vast expanse of the Aegean Sea (nearby Greece), an Allied squadron patrolling the waters encountered two Italian cruisers making a transfer from Tripoli to Leros, an Italian colony in the Dodecanese Islands. Led by the seasoned Australian Captain John Collins aboard HMAS Sydney, the Allied squadron, comprising British destroyers, found themselves thrust into a high-stakes encounter with the Italian 2nd Cruiser Division, commanded by Vice Admiral Ferdinando Casardi.
