US urges Israel to reduce intensity of war in Gaza
The US Defence secretary has returned to Israel with a message that has become increasingly vocal but too late for thousands: scale back the intensity of the war in Gaza.
Lloyd Austin insisted that protecting civilians should be both a moral duty and a ‘strategic imperative’ – adding that America’s support for Israel’s right to defend itself remained “ironclad”.
But as the number of Palestinian casualties rises ever higher – the calls for an urgent ceasefire are growing ever louder around the world.
