With the financial support of Qatar, Erdogan took advantage of the Arab Spring to expand Turkish influence. For a decade now, Turkey has been expanding its military footprint all over the Balkans, the Middle East and even on the African continent. “Coincidentally”, always in places where the Ottoman Empire had already set foot in. As of now, one in seven Turkish soldiers are deployed abroad to maintain this “Empire”.
