Specialist Armoured Fighting Vehicles
During the Allied landings on Normandy during D-Day and the subsequent invasion into heartland Europe, they made eager use of several specialist armoured fighting vehicles. These vehicles, derived from tanks, had a great variety of uses. Many of them were designed before or during the Second World War by the 79th Armoured Division. This division was commanded by Major General Percy “Hobo” Hobart. It led to the nickname of these curious vehicles: “Hobart’s Funnies”.
