AUKUS Deal
Australia’s Defence Minister, Richard Marles, has said that “hi-tech”arms are more important than nuclear submarines. Marles’ comment, while in the US, is being seen as a reflection of the new government’s stand on the AUKUS nuke subs deal. Some analysts say the comments show that the future of the AUKUS nuclear submarine pact could be grim. Earlier, former defence minister, Peter Dutton, had accused Marles of “preparing the ground” to dump the nuke subs deal.
